Data Analysis

Using Raster GIS to Evaluate Hospital Catchment Areas Based on Travel Time in North Central Massachusetts and South Central New Hampshire  In this investigation, a geographic area and its residents were allocated to several regional hospitals based on estimated travel time, assuming that people go to the hospital they can get to most quickly. This analysis was performed for two scenarios (one with five hospitals and one with six hospitals) to explore the potential consequences of shutting down one of the hospitals. The entire analysis was based on the following data layers:
  1. Highways and major roads, with attributes for speed limit.
  2. Streets.
  3. Water bodies.
  4. Town boundaries, with attribute database containing town name, total population, and area.
  5. Locations of Burbank Hospital and the five neighboring full-service emergency care facilities.
